Boy’s Troop 65
The boy’s Troop will be celebrating 100 years of Scouting in Hershey next year (2026). Over that time, there have been countless Scouts who have explored and enjoyed all that Scouting has to offer a young man. Leaders have been trained and honed their abilities. Life-long skills were taught by older Scouts and passed on, Scout-generation to Scout-generation.
Scouting does more than get you into the woods or wearing a uniform. It gives you a chance to explore who you are, and most importantly, who you want to become. Scouting provides an authentic place to be yourself now and find who you will be. It gives you a sense of purpose and pride in what you do. The uniform has meaning, and so do the badges, which represent not just what is earned to wear on a sash but what has been developed as a core part of you as a developing man.
What We Do
Meetings, trips, fun adventures… You name it, we’re doing it. We backpack, have adventures, attend Camporees, work on Merit Badges, develop skills, gain knowledge, and find time to do fun things together as a Scout family.
We believe in learning new skills as a group and as growing individuals. We have structured weekly meetings on Monday nights at our host church, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in downtown Hershey, from 7:00-8:30 pm.
We also serve our community and are always looking for more ways to be of use to make Hershey, Hummelstown, Palmyra, and other local areas special.
Leadership
One of the core tenants, if not the core tenant, of Scouting is developing leaders. We follow the Patrol Method and empower our Scout leadership with meeting and trip planning, and overseeing meetings and activities.
Of course, we have adult supervision at all times as per Scouting America’s regulations. And we’re lucky enough to have a wonderfully engaged and dedicated group of parents and volunteers who see that the boys are on the right track and doing so safely.
Scouts serve a variety of leadership roles, including Senior Patrol Leader (the highest leadership position in the Troop), Patrol Leaders, Scribe, Quartermaster, and Historian, plus assistants, just to name a few.
